"I don't sit on the monitor and check what is being shot" - Sajid Nadiadwala
One of the few independent producers operating in Bollywood today, Sajid Nadiadwala has been making biggies with the biggest of stars and enjoying a great success rate. On the other hand director Siddharth Anand has worked with one of the biggest banners in the country - Yash Raj Films - and has delivered three reasonably successful films in a row.
No wonder, when the two highly creative individuals joined hands for Anjaana Anjaani and roped in two of the hottest stars in Bollywood - Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, there was widespread excitement. Now as the film is barely a month away from release, the makers look back at the experience quite fondly and recollect the understanding that they carried around their respective roles.
"It goes without saying that Siddharth comes from the most respected banner of the industry. More that anything else, it was my duty that anyone who works with my production house doesn't feel anything lesser here. That is my most important goal", says Sajid. Incidentally, it is after a while that he has worked with a director who has mad a few films earlier. Before Anjaana Anjaani, his last few films were with new directors, case in point being Sajid Khan (Heyy Babyy, Housefull), Sabir Khan (Kambakkht Ishq) and Shirish Kunder (Jaan-E-Mann).
For Siddharth too, it was a new road being travelled once he was through with his three film contract with Yash Raj Films. After making Salaam Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Bachna Ae Haseeno for Aditya Chopra and Co., he teamed up with Sajid Nadiadwala to make a romantic musical entertainer. Respecting his independence when it came to executing his vision, Siddharth is happy that he could do things the way he wanted.
"I am too independent in the way I make movies", says the young filmmaker, "Thankfully Adi and Sajid have given me that space. I take all credit and discredit for the films I make. This way I have been fortunate that I got a chance to make movies the way I wanted to."
This was the reason why even though the film has been mostly shot overseas, Siddharth was free to call the shots in the way he wanted without any interference from any quarters whatsoever.
"Once I green light a film, I don't enter the zone of filmmaking till the edit stage. I don't sit on the monitor and check what is being shot", says Sajid who has two more biggies planned for a kick start soon, "Even when Siddharth, Ranbir and Priyanka were shooting abroad, I went there just for 8-10 days and that too only from the perspective of production supervision. It is my job to check if everyone is comfortable or not."
"After I am happy with the way things are progressing and am assured that it is all smooth, I leave. I did the same for Housefull as well when the shooting was on in London and Italy", he adds, "However, I never interfere in the shoot. It is the director's department. My job is to rope in the best talent and then allow them to deliver to the best of their skills."
